Silk is a beautifully soft and luxurious fabric. The use of silk can be traced back thousands of years. Originally reserved for royalty, once the beauty and qualities of silk fabric became known outside of China, demand increased for access to this luxurious fibre and fabric. This led to the creation the Silk Road in circa 114 BCE, a famous trade route between the East and the West linking China with Rome. Silk became a valuable commodity and a symbol of wealth and luxury. Silk was used in ancient, embroidered tapestries, for creating woven textiles, for making paper, for painting on and for making exquisite dresses and clothing. Silk is a natural, strong and supple fibre produced in a long continuous thread by silkworms. We make our silk pieces from the highest quality 16 momme Mulberry silk. Momme measures fabric weight and 16 refers to a fabric that’s a good balance of durability and lightness, perfect for sleepwear and pillowcases. Mulberry silk is produced by silkworms which are fed exclusively on fresh mulberry leaves from the Mobus Alba tree. Silk fibres produce a natural and durable fabric that is smooth, cool and luxurious to the touch. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and is resistant to dust mites and other common allergens, is gentle on hair and helps skin retain its moisture.

Caring for silk
Silk is a beautifully soft and durable yet delicate fabric. To maintain the beauty, softness and lustre of silk, follow the laundering instructions carefully on our care labelling. We recommend a cold hand wash or a cold machine wash on gentle cycle, using a mild laundry liquid or powder, line drying in the shade and a cool iron.
