What to see
Auckland is NZ’ largest city and is known as the ‘City of Sails’ as it is located within the Hauraki Gulf and on a narrow isthmus within easy distance of both east and west coasts. There are lots of beautiful beaches to see, from the white sand of Takapuna beach on the North shore and Mission Bay just along from the CBD to the wild black sand west coast beaches of Piha and Murawai. For garden lovers, visit the Auckland Domain and wintergardens, Cornwall Park, the Parnell Rose Gardens and Auckland Botanic Gardens. For city sights, visit the bustling downtown waterfront area and Silo park.

What to eat
When it comes to eating, Auckland has everything from food trucks to fine dining. For brunch try Chur Bae, Crave, Honey Bones, Mother – a café, bakery and wine bar or the Takapuna Beach Café. For dinner try Bivacco, Soul Bar – a longtime Auckland favourite, Amano, or Depot for casual diner food or the Onslow for fine dining. Or if you just fancy an ice cream on a hot day, there are a range of delicious options in Mission Bay across the road from the beach.

What to do
There are plenty of activities to keep the young and not so young entertained and busy in Auckland. Take the lift up to the viewing platform of the Sky Tower for views as far as the eye can see (there is also a revolving restaurant in Sky Tower). For the brave, there is a sky walk and a sky jump on offer. Or for a bit of history, visit the Auckland Museum in the domain and the beautiful Auckland Art Gallery on Lorne Street. For family outings, visit the wide range of wildlife at the Auckland Zoo or the fun displays at MOTAT. For a day trip, take a ferry from downtown Auckland to Waiheke Island for exploring and/or a winery tour.
