Prepping for summer guests
14 Dec, 2020
The summer months are often when we take our holidays and are a great time to visit friends and family around our beautiful country. Summer means enjoying life at a slower pace, being able to relax and enjoy a break from the routine of every day life. Sleep in, go barefoot, eat fresh food, gather friends together for good times and welcome guests into your home.
Plan ahead for the arrival of summer guests so you can make the most of enjoying each others company. Make time to get the guest room ready and prepare simple menus in advance so that shopping can be done before guests arrive. Plan outings to do together and what you might need for those, such as a beach picnic or trip to a local farmers market. Planning ahead and being organised will make it feel like a little holiday for you too.
The guest room
Make your guests stay in your home comfortable and special with a few lovely essentials ready in the guest room. A vase of pretty flowers, fresh bath and beach towels, a tray set up with bottles of sparkling and still mineral water, beautiful magazines to browse, a bedside lamp and fragrant candle. Treat your guest to an eye mask, a gift to use during their stay and then take home, for holiday sleep ins and afternoon naps.
The guest bed
If it‘s been a while since you’ve had guests to stay, air your pillows and duvet inners in warm sunshine to freshen them and remove any winter dampness. Make the bed with freshly laundered and ironed bed linen, including Euro pillows which are lovely to lean against when reading in bed. Add a throw on the end of the bed for summer siestas and to wrap up in for those cooler evenings outside by the BBQ or fire.
The guest bathroom
If your home has a guest bathroom, take the time for a good declutter and clean. Place fresh bath towels, hand towel and face cloths on the towel rail ready for your guests. Add a fragrant diffuser, fresh handwash and guest soap for the final touches. If your guests need to share the family bathroom, create a space for them to sit their toothbrush and bath bag, and somewhere to hang their bath towels to dry.
With sunny days and long evenings to enjoy, eating outdoors is relaxing and effortless. The pleasure of summer entertaining is using the abundance of fresh, sun ripened, seasonal produce to make light crisp salads and tasty vegetable dishes to accompany your BBQ. Create easy delicious desserts with summer fruits and berries and a dollop of coconut yoghurt. Pour a glass of something chilled to share and enjoy.See our summer entertaining tips and recipes
