Summer reading list

Summer holidays are on the horizon
This time of year is perfect for living life at a slower pace and catching up on your reading. After the year that has been, take some time to feel the warmth of the sun and lose yourself in the pages of a feel-good book. We chatted to Mandy from Bookety Book Book’s about what she’ll be reading on her summer holiday.
Q: Tell us a bit about your business, Bookety Book Book’s
A: As a very passionate reader who was struggling to find the books I wished to read locally, I saw the opportunity to create a curated online book shop to showcase a diverse range of authors to be easily accessible to all. I really wanted to create a community that didn’t exclude by postcode, and online was the perfect space to do that. We host a monthly book club meeting online, or you can join the Facebook group to chat and see book recommendations from others. Also making sure that the shopping experience was still enjoyable was really important for me, which is where the beautiful sustainable packaging, and an easy to use website came into the mix.
Q: Have you always loved reading?
A: Yes, I can still remember all my favourite childhood reads. Once I was in my teens, my Mum would pass down books she had read and loved, which I think is what kept that love of reading going through into adulthood. And now it’s me passing my Mum books from the shop that I have loved.
Q: As a small Kiwi business, how have you been impacted by COVID?
A: Like most stock holding businesses, we are battling global supply chain issues. It makes running a business practically impossible to get the stock your customers want to your shelves quickly – as it’s taking 6-8 weeks to receive an order. On the upside though the demand for books is there, it’s just a matter of constantly trying to get the quantities right for the demand as once something is sold out it could be months before it’s back on your shelf.
Q: Can you share with us what titles are on your list for a light-hearted, summer read?
A: The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman is the follow up to the best-selling The Thursday Murder Club, perfect for fans of mystery who like to have bit of a laugh.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a fun juicy gossip of a read.
You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry is this summer’s romance book to be devoured in the sun by the water while ignoring your family.
Love stories is by the much loved author of Boy Swallows Universe. Trent Dalton hit the streets and simply asked people 'Can you please tell me a love story?'
Taste by Stanley Tucci is his memoir through food, and who doesn’t love food, and Stanley Tucci? A winning combination.
