Summer collection Q&A

09 Nov, 2021

Hello summer

We love the stretched out days of summer that invite a slower pace of life. Enjoying the simple pleasures of wearing lighter layers, dining outdoors, long beach walks and spending time with loved ones.

Prepare for warmer weather with tropical inspired bed linen, beautiful homeware, effortless linen clothing and light summer sleepwear. Our outdoor collection is back in new designs to brighten your outdoor spaces for relaxing and entertaining in style.

We chatted to Design Director Paula Wallace along with our design and production team, about what has inspired this collection and how these pieces can be enjoyed for years to come.

Our summer collection features shades of ocean, coral, and plantation along with natural linen and pure white.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about summer?
A: Balmy evening barbecues, high tide swims, tomatoes on the vines in the garden, rock melons, eating light and fresh meals, taking friends and family sailing, catching up with friends and sipping on Aperol spritzes.

Q: What has inspired the designs and colour palette of this collection?
A: Summer in the Antipodes, simple clean natural fabrics, texture and colours with themes of the tropics.

Q: How does this collection work together for a coordinated look?
A: The summer collection has been designed with colour themes so that each piece will sit comfortably with the other pieces in our summer range and coordinate effortlessly with previous seasons. Shades of ocean, coral, and plantation are prevalent along with natural linen and pure white of course.

Q: What are your tips for styling Palm Cove bedding with pieces from previous seasons?
A: This will be gorgeous layered up for summer slumbering with Prairie or Unity quilts, or paired back with Loft linen pillowcases and white linen sheets.

Q: Which piece are you most excited to bring into your own home?
A: I particularly love the linen cushion collection, which will be perfect on the sofas in my home.

Summer means balmy evening barbecues, high tide swims and tomatoes on the vines in the garden.

Our amazing production team handle everything to make it possible for us to share our beautiful collections with you. From sourcing and coordinating suppliers, overseeing the creation of our seasonal ranges to managing the challenges of international shipping. We asked Vicky, our Production Team Manager about how the recent lockdown has affected production.

Q: As an Auckland-based team, how have the past few months impacted the process of bringing this collection together?
A: I feel that we’ve been better prepared to manage the impacts of this recent lockdown given that we’ve been here before. As a team we’ve shown a lot of resilience and adaptability to move quickly in response to this while balancing our new realities at work and home. The digital platforms that have been put in place allows greater communication to help us from design selections all the way through to finished production. We have a fantastic team and are really lucky that every part of the business has really supported us, and quickly adjusted to the constant disruptions that we are faced with in our production and supply chain delays. – Vicky

Q: What lessons have you learned from this lockdown?
A: Maybe to slow down, to see all points of view, and the value of working with great people, even if we don’t get to see them all the time! - Paula

Q: Can you tell us about the location photoshoot for the summer campaign?

A: We were really fortunate to have the use of Puketutu Island Estate for our summer campaign. The elegant building and grounds are reminiscent of days gone by when the pace of life was slower and we had time to think and breathe deeply – funny enough it feels a bit like this with lockdown days. Puketutu has lush tropical gardens and a stunning long orangerie with beautiful windows, all on an island within Auckland, how lucky!

Q: How would you describe your ideal New Zealand summer holiday?

A: My family are mostly at home on or in the water so any summer holiday usually involves a boat, loads of food and wine, and friends and family coming and going, plus our small hairy dog Wally of course.

Q: Do you have a favourite family Christmas tradition you could share with us?

A: Having Christmas in summer means we wake up on Christmas morning, walk the small hairy dog, have a swim, then settle in for fresh fruit parfait and mimosas before opening presents. Then we meet up with our large lovely extended family.

We’re excited to show you our summer collection, however not all items are available just yet. Please view our Coming Soon category online for up to date arrival estimates and pre-order options.
