Q: Tell us about your new position at Wallace Cotton
A: I feel really privileged to be assisting our wonderful customers with their bed linen choices. Using the expertise and knowledge gained over years working at Wallace Cotton and through my own design experiences, I will be helping customers select bed linen and homeware for their cosy spaces, projects and businesses. I am excited to offer uninterrupted time to customers in a one-on-one setting to curate a look that they will love!

Q: How did your design journey lead you to this role?
A: I have been passionate about design from day dot. My family have been involved in transforming property, from a very young age I was inspired by the amazing results. I was dragged along to tile, paint, plumbing and fabric stores which quickly became my happy places. I knew I wanted a role that involved being creative and working with beautiful things. When I started at Wallace Cotton, I knew that this was where my passion could grow.

Q: You’ve studied interior design; could you tell us a bit about this?
A: I have a Diploma in Interior Design, which helped to broaden my understanding of the elements and principles of design. I loved learning more about the history of style, design and architecture. The Diploma covered skills such as space planning, colour, lighting, interior finishes, textiles and fabrics, furniture, art and accessories.

Q: How would you describe your own interior design style?
A: It is forever evolving! I love surrounding myself with things that bring joy, so this is the forefront of my design choices. I look at each home and its surroundings and determine which design style suits best, never incorporating more than two blends of styles to keep things simple. I follow the design style ‘Transitional’; combining the traditional and the contemporary. This style is encapsulated by modern, soft-neutral colour palettes combined with touches of pastel or earthy hues. I am also loving travertine and mixed-stone finishes we are seeing within the warm minimalist style trend!

Q: What advice would you give to someone taking on an interior design project?
A: It is important not to become overwhelmed. I usually start from finding inspiration from two design styles that I love for the home and going in this direction. This allows you to concentrate on specific pieces, colours and finishes associated with these styles.
Considering colour is crucial! Create harmony with a common thread of colour and have a plan to map it out.
Consider scale and proportion; a room can feel smaller if you don’t have the appropriate size furniture and art to anchor the room. This needs to be considered throughout your project.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working with Wallace Cotton customers?
A: I love that our customers share their success with us; I have seen many beautiful photographs of rooms which they are proud of and which demonstrate how creative they can be with our products.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about working at Wallace Cotton?
A: The people! I love the team, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Our customers love our selection and regularly comment on how nice it is to be surrounded by beautiful product that looks and feels amazing.

Q: What is your #1 Wallace Cotton product, and what’s on your wishlist?
A: I love everything Loft Linen! My white Loft Linen Duvet is my must-have, it is such a beautiful base and adds a floaty dreaminess to any room.
The Mariner Stripe Large Square cushions are on my wish list; they are the perfect staple with the natural background and elegant pencil stripe. The size is smaller than a Euro but larger than a square cushion, making them versatile for the living room or bedroom. I always choose a feather inner as these anchor better and you can create the perfect sumptuous chop!

Q: What does a stylist appointment look like?
A: We begin with a chat on the phone and determine the goals of the consultation appointment. I will ask specific questions via phone or email a questionnaire to customers who prefer to record their thoughts.
From here, I review the information and curate looks for the appointment, as well as organise stock and samples to showcase in-store. Providing room measurements and photographs, as well as inspirational images, really helps!
When the appointment occurs; meeting in-store is helpful as I can re-arrange displays and find additions as our discussion unfolds. I will bring styled images to share and layer the suggested bed style in-store. This is a very organic meeting – I like things to be relaxed and enjoyable. Think shopping with your friend who offers great advice!
