Starship, Ruby Seeto and Wallace Cotton
Ruby Seeto has been working with Wallace Cotton since 2009, when she was an 11 year old cancer survivor, designing colourful tea towels to raise funds for Starship, our national children’s hospital.SHOP THE COLLECTION
Raising funds together
Together we have raised more than $500,000 through the sale of Ruby’s tea towels. Ruby’s Kiwi Breakfast Bowl for Starship design from 2019 raised over $42,000 to help equip the Day Stay Unit with a digital wall display to help calm and distract children as they wait for their appointments.
Funds raised through the sale of Ruby’s tea towels have supported multiple projects in the Starship Hospital, including the Oncology ward, the neonatal simulation programme, supporting an international training fellowship for a Specialist Starship Oncologist and helping towards the setup of an ovarian tissue cryopreservation banking protocol for New Zealand Haematology-Oncology Services.
Nana Una's Carrot Cake
You will be morning tea ready with this delicious Carrot Cake recipe from Ruby Seeto. Ruby’s Nana Una’s carrot cake is a firm family favourite and she has shared it on her new Wallace Cotton tea towel design for 2021 to raise funds for Starship. The cute washcloths featuring mini carrots and the new tea towel design are pretty and practical for your kitchen and perfect for gifting. Ruby’s Carrot Cake range will be available to purchase instore and online with $6 from the sale of each tea towel and $4 from the washcloth sets being donated directly to Starship.
Proceeds from Ruby’s Nana Una’s Carrot Cake tea towel and wash cloths will help fund a full time Play Specialist at Starship. Hospital Play Specialists work with patients and their families to create a space in which children and youth can be actively involved in their care. They work together to create positive coping strategies and experiences which promote a sense of confidence.
