Our Story

We are a family-owned New Zealand bed linen, homeware and sleepwear business, founded in late 2005. Celebrating beautiful designs, great quality and living with a little luxury, Wallace Cotton has been making homes around the world more beautiful since 2006.

The Early Days
Wallace Cotton began with us making a duvet cover as a gift for a friend. That first duvet cover was so well loved that it inspired us to start a bed linen business based on beautiful designs and quality cotton. Our first catalogue was mailed to a small group of friends in November 2005. Family members pitched in to help get the business up and running and many are still working with us today.

The Wallace Cotton Journey by Timeline

2005 Where it all began: The first premises for Wallace Cotton was a small head office, warehouse and retail space in Enterprise Street, Birkenhead in Auckland.

2006 – 2012 Retail store expansion: New Wallace Cotton retail stores opened in Newmarket, Takapuna and Ponsonby in Auckland and in Wellington.

2013 Head office growth: Moved to a larger head office, warehouse space and retail store in Apollo Drive, Albany in Auckland.

2013 – 2021 Retail store expansion: New Wallace Cotton retail stores opened in Cambridge, Napier, Christchurch and Northwest Mall in Auckland.

2017 Overseas growth: After rapid international online growth, we opened a Wallace Cotton UK retail store in Battersea, London and launched a UK online store.

2021 Head office growth: Moved to a brand new, purpose built premises in Parkway Drive, Rosedale in Auckland. The new premises comprises a spacious and modern head office, a much larger warehouse and our beautiful flagship Rosedale store. The new premises also includes a bespoke in-house photography studio.

2022 Our team: After beginning Wallace Cotton in 2005 with a handful of family members as our ‘staff’, we now currently employ 33 retail team members across our eight stores. Our head office employs 27 people who work in our management, design, marketing, production, customer service, wholesale, finance and warehouse teams.

The Future

For us the story is just getting started. We love making everyday more beautiful for our customers with thoughtfully designed bed linen, homeware and sleepwear. Our collections are inspired by nature, the gentle pace of our seasons and the relaxed lifestyle of living in New Zealand.

Looking forward, we believe that a sustainable approach to textiles is incredibly important for the future of our planet. Since 2006, we've been constantly improving every process in our business to become more sustainable. Our collections are made from the finest, natural and sustainable fabrics so that we tread lightly on our precious planet.
